Run Flat Tyres

What is a Run Flat Tyre?

A run flat tyre is a type of tyre that has specially reinforced sidewalls that can continue to support your car even while the tyre is deflated. Because of this, if the car tyre is deflated or blown out, you are still able to continue driving on the tyre for up to 50 further miles at a max speed of 50 mph. This allows you to get to a garage of your own accord, without the need for roadside assistance or carrying a spare tyre.

As you’re not paying for roadside assistance or having to carry excess bulk weight, run flat tyres can help in reducing the upfront cost of a blown out or flat tyre as well as the general running cost of your car throughout the year.

Installation and repair

Due to the unique nature of run flat tyres, they come with some additional regulation around their usage and repair.

Firstly, they’re only able to be installed on cars with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, because they have a more robust construction that can make noticing damage or deflation much harder.

Secondly, certain manufacturers recommend against repairing run flat tyres because their reinforced structure can make noticing or diagnosing internal issues harder.

At Europit, we have a highly qualified team of technicians with speciality training on run flat tyre repairs, so we may be able to repair certain brands of run flat tyres.
